I don\u2019t usually care if words drop off the edge of the plate, with one exception. Whatever happened to the word \u2018nor\u2019? It\u2019s not a particularly beautiful word in its own right but it has a purpose without which some sentences don\u2019t make sense. \u2018Nor\u2019 is being constantly replaced by \u2018neither\u2019. I watched an episode of Suits the other night, quite well written stuff, and there were three \u2018neithers\u2019 where there should have been \u2018nors\u2019. Strange how these things gradually drive you mad! <\/span><\/p>\n

We all got the drift but it means that \u2018neither one thing neither the other\u2019 is now the accepted usage and presumably, with either being replaced by or, \u2018either this either that\u2019 is supposed to make sense. It\u2019s not quite as bad as \u2018of\u2019 replacing \u2018have\u2019 but it\u2019s a close second and I know language is a living thing but that\u2019s no reason to kill it. There\u2019s a whole host of others. Don\u2019t get me started on the old favourites \u2018less\u2019 and \u2018fewer\u2019, \u2018imply\u2019 and \u2018infer\u2019 and espically \u2018bought\u2019 and \u2018brought\u2019.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
